GuestRoomMaribor

Introduction:

Main goal of coproduction open call is to support and encourage international cooperation between non-governmental cultural organizations through exchange of artists, establishing the basis for coworking on a common programme, as well as to initiate long lasting connections between GuestRoomMaribor, local and international art/cultural organizations.

Coproduction open call is divided into two different types: for (1 A) local Slovenian non-governmental cultural organizations/producers and (1 B) international non-governmental cultural organizations and/or producers.
Estimated number of residencies per year: 2 (1 A) / 2 (1 B).

Application process:

(1 A)

Local/Slovenian cultural organization/producer suggest a foreign artist which could be already part of their regular programme or only potential candidate for it for the 1 month long residency stay in GuestRoomMaribor. Suggested artists for the residency can work in the extended field of contemporary visual art (painting, sculpture, new media, photography, performance and body art, land and public art etc.), theatre, literature or music arts. Jury selects two candidates at least two times a year (January and June).

Application form and Portfolio of the suggested artist should be sent to guestroommaribor (at) gmail.com.

We offer:

• studio apartment (size 96 m² or 76 m²),
• presentation of the artist to local audience / Meet the resident,
• presentation of the process and/or results during residence / Project presentation,
• support in terms of organization, production and documentation,
• refunding of production expenses (up to 500 EUR).
  

We require

• one month residency stay,
• preparation and presence at Meet the resident (presentation of cultural organization-applier or local art scene and wider cultural, political, etc. context from which he follows),
• presence and presentation of completed project/working process on the Project presentation,
• cooperation with GuestRoomMaribor and applicant-organization/producer.

Main goal of the ongoing open call: subsection - partnership is to support ongoing programmes of local independent cultural organizations and NGOs and through it to contribute to development of local art and cultural scene in general. Subsection partnership is not necessarily carried out in a form of 1-2 months long residential stay of foreign artists in Maribor and does not presuppose cooperation between applied organization and GuestRoomMaribor in terms of programme. However, applied organization - potential partners on the basis of sharing GuestRoomMaribor’s apartment studios, is suppose to adapt to the GuestRoomMaribor’s ongoing programme (see the calendar).

Application process: Local organization can suggest 1 to maximum 2 foreign artists per year, GuestRoomMaribor decides about selected twice a year (January/February and June) based on its own ongoing programme and occupancy of the apartment studios.

International cultural organization/producer suggest a local artist who it supports or regularly include into its programme for the one month residency stay at GuestRoomMaribor with intention to promote local artists internationally and/or establishes (one time or permanent) cooperation with GuestRoomMaribor. Preferably applicant organization/producer covers travel expenses and scholarship for suggested artist. Suggested artists for the residency can work in the extended field of contemporary visual art (painting, sculpture, new media, photography, performance and body art, land and public art etc.), theatre, literature or music arts. Jury selects two candidates at least two times a year (January and June).
